Out Magazine's Columnist on the Fight for Gay Marriage
By Vanessa West | Thursday, September 11, 2008
Out Magazine's columnist, Josh Kilmer-Purcell, in his article "Homo Ennui," talks about how recently LGBT groups have not been making enough noise, attempting to sneak gay marriage through. He says, "In our rush to the altar we've decided to tiptoe the last mile. GLBT groups in California encouraged couples to tone down their weddings..." He continues, "...I want to see Lance Bass wake up from a drunken evening next to a stranger sporting a wedding ring."
Kilmer-Purcell's entertaining language aside, his point is a good one. An unspoken standard that gay couples should try to be perfect, model couples - that we have to prove that we deserve the right to marriage is not right. We don't have to earn marriage. We have just as much right to be able screw it up royally as a straight couple. The pressure to be perfect doesn't need to be there. Pick up a copy of Out Magazine for the full article.
