Queer Next Up is a series originally posted to our Instagram. We feature smaller queer artists who we think deserve your love, support, and dedication.
VATTICA (they/them) is an artist and self-described soapbox snark for social change who writes alt-rock anthems for our dystopia.
What is your earliest memory of wanting to be an artist?
It was the first time I picked up a guitar when I was about 12 or 13. That, combined with hearing Green Day for the first time had me immediately hooked.
What are you most proud of?
The fact that I strive to continue to grow and evolve in all areas of my life.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
So much. Wow. I think one of the most important things would be to get myself started on anti-racist learning right away. To listen more and talk less. To know that there are other LGBTQIA2S+ folks out there. To start dismantling my toxic masculinity brainwashing earlier. To know that the music industry is not a meritocracy but just an extension of capitalism. I can go on. Does this have a character limit?
Why do you create art?
Because it’s who I am, I’m compelled to, and also to use art to help assist in bringing about sociopolitical and structural change.
