This absolutely needed to be said. I have a friend who told me she was interested in Skam, and when I had asked for her thoughts about the portrayal of the Muslim community and how other POC were represented, she practically laughed in my face and completely brushed off my entire question. Turns out she hadn’t watched that season, and when I asked her why, she said, “I only watched the show to see Isak and Even. They’re so cute together, I love gay people.” I almost punched her in the face. It’s not wrong to like gay people (I encourage everyone to embrace them more actually), but if you’re going around and reducing homosexual relationships to something lesser than for your personal fetishes and fantasies, that makes you an awful person.
